Description
Ceylon Cinnamon is less pungent or more subtle than cassia cinnamon which is more widely used around the world. It has a more subtle flavour profile.
Ceylon Cinnamon has all the goodness of cassia cinnamon minus ‘coumarin’ or very small traces of it. So those of you who have issues with ‘coumarin’ a plant based blood thinning agent can have all the goodness of cinnamon without the ‘coumarin’. Your delicious cinnamon rolls or your cinnamon laced tea does not have to be missed.
It is also commonly called as Dalcheeni in India.
Key benefits of ceylon cinnamon:
- Very high in antioxidants and may help reduce inflammation and oxidative damage.
- Lower in coumarin compared to cassia, making it a gentler daily option.
- Supports healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels in some studies.
- Enhances flavour of foods naturally — allowing you to use less added sugar or spice.
- Ideal for sweet recipes, breakfast bowls, teas or gourmet cooking.
How to store:
- Use an airtight container to preserve the refined flavour and aroma.
- Store in a cool, dry cupboard, away from heat, moisture or strong odours.
- Opt for whole quills/sticks when possible — grind fresh for better aroma.
- After opening, reseal immediately; whole sticks maintain freshness longer than ground.
